Information
What support should you and your child expect from your visiting teacher?
Visiting Teachers conduct regular planned and impromptu visits to the educator’s homes while children are in care.
Our visiting teachers support educators with educational planning and advice as well as supervision of regulations and professional standards. Your visiting teacher will supply resources to the educators, most often based on the interests and needs of children attending. The Kids Care Team provides nursery equipment.
Your child will receive a visit from their visiting teacher once per month. But often children will see their Visiting Teacher more regularly through visits to other children in the home, impromptu visits, playgroups and excursions. After the scheduled visit a learning story and photos of the visit or other relevant information will be printed for your child’s learning journal. About once a term we will send a copy of a learning story to you, we appreciate your comments on these and then they are returned to your educator and go into the learning journal.
We host a playgroup fortnightly in New Plymouth and monthly in Stratford and arrange a special excursion into the community every term. Your visiting teacher will contact you from time-to-time via telephone, email or written; we encourage parents/caregivers to please contact us if they ever have any questions or suggestions regarding your child.
We encourage parents to spend as much time as you feel you need visiting your child’s educator before leaving him/her for the first time.
